Genetic diversity and local adaptation across the brook trout native range
|
From headwater streams in the southern Appalachians to glacial lakes in northern Canada, brook trout populations face diverse environmental challenges across their native range.
In collaboration with partners across northeastern North America and the Great Lakes, we are studying how genetic diversity in native brook trout underpins local adaptation and resilience to changing climatic conditions. By connecting patterns from local to continental scales, this work reveals how brook trout are adapt to heterogeneous environmental conditions. These insights are essential not only for conserving brook trout across their range, but also for informing fisheries management strategies that sustain populations in a rapidly changing environment.
